Orthotics and Compression Stockings

What are Orthotics?

Orthotics are non-invasive corrective devices which help correct some knee, foot, and ankle issues. These devices are custom made to meet each individuals’ health concerns uniquely. At AAA Wellness and Rehab, our physiotherapy team will assess, fit and create custom orthotics for patients on an individual basis. Using assessment tools such as a GAIT analysis and/or feiss line test clients may have their gait or how they walk assessed by one of our physiotherapists or chiropractor. Muscle imbalance, fallen arches, arthritis or other joint issues may be identified in this process.
Patients may have insurance coverage for such devices.

What are Orthopedic Shoes?

These custom made shoes help accommodate the mechanics and structure of the foot, ankle and leg to correct any disfunction, pain, or ineffective coping mechanism a person might have which compromises or impedes everyday life.

Examples of conditions that might benefit from a shoe modification might include:
– Bunions
– Different leg lengths
– Arthritis
– Fractures
– Abnormal foot alignments

Compression Stockings

Compression stockings gently squeeze your legs to move blood up your legs. This helps prevent leg swelling and, to a lesser extent, blood clots. If you have varicose veins, spider veins, or have just had surgery, your health care provider may prescribe compression stockings.

Compression socks are used to increase circulation for health concerns such as:
– Deep vein thrombosis
– Diabetes
– Air travel
– Professions with long standing hours such as nursing, cashiers, service industry, factory labourers, construction workers
– Heart conditions

After our Physiotherapist does a complete Health History and Initial Assessment, they will be able to recommend a customized compression stocking for your personal needs.
